Waxing is a cosmetic process that semi-permanently removes hair around the eyebrows, face, bikini area, legs, arms, back, abdomen, and feet. This is accomplished by applying a thin layer of wax combination to the skin, and then covering it with a strip of paper or cloth. The strip is then ripped off with a quick movement, taking the unwanted hair along with it. In some cases, hair removal may also be done with a ‘hard wax’, which solidifies as it cools, thus allowing the therapist to easily remove it without the usage of strips. The latter method is said to be less painful, and is recommended especially for those with sensitive skin.

Since waxing removes the hair straight from the root, new ones will not grow in the waxed area for two to eight weeks on average. However, once hair does start to grow back, it is recommended that it be allowed to grow to at least a quarter-inch in length, to maximize the effectiveness of your next wax.

Spa TherapyBrazilian bikini waxes, brought to New York in 1987, are one of the most popular hair removal methods in the US. Unlike regular bikini waxes, Brazilian waxes involve removing hair in the front, back, and everything in between. Usually, a small bit of hair is left in the front, though clients are free to request that everything be removed.
